Tyler Clementi (18) – Tyler’s death made national headlines and highlighted the outrageous number of gay teens who were committing suicide as a result of bullying from classmates. Tyler was a student at Rutgers University whose roommate streamed online Tyler and another male student kissing without their knowledge.
Phoebe Prince (15) – Having just moved to the U.S. from Ireland with her family, Phoebe suffered numerous months of bullying by other students at her high school before taking her own life. The Massachusetts legislature enacted stricter anti-bullying legislation in response to Phoebe’s story.
Eric Mohat (17) – Eric was one of four students at his high school in Mentor, OH to take his life after being relentlessly bullied in 2007.
Billy Lucas (15) – A student from Greensburg, IN was bullied by his classmates and took his own life in September 2010.
Megan Meier (13) – Teenager from Missouri who took her own life after being bullied by a friend's mother on Myspace.
Raymond Chase (19) – A sophomore at Johnson and Wales University was the fifth gay teen to take his own life due to harrasement within a few weeks in September 2010.
Seth Walsh (13) – A middle school student from Tehachapi, CA was openly gay and was one of the five teens to take his own life due to harrasement within a few weeks in September 2010.
Justin Aaberg (15) – Justin came out as gay at the age of 13 and was bullied by fellow students at his high school in Minnesota. He was one of five teens who took his own life in September 2010.
April Himes (13) – A middle schooler in Richland, WA had missed 53 days of school before her death due in 2000 as a result of the constant bullying she was subject to at the hands of other students.
Brandon Bitner (14) – A freshman in Middleberg, PA was subject to anti-gay torment in high school.
Matthew Epling (14) – A high school freshman from East Lansing, MI took his own life after being hazed by upperclassmen in the parking lot of his school.
Jared High (13) – A 6th grader from Washington suffered from depression after having been bullied relentlessly at school.
Meredith Rezak (16) – Meredith was a good friend of Eric Mohat and also from Mentor, OH. Shortly before her suicide, she had joined the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance and told friends and family she thought she might be gay.
Jeffery Johnston (15) – A student from Florida who took his own life in 2005 after being bullied online by numerous classmates.
Zachary Harrington (19) – An openly gay student at the University of Central Oklahoma was taunted for his sexuality throughout high school and took his own life after witnessing a ”toxic” exchange between neighbors at a City Council meeting aimed at recognizing October as LGBT history month.
Asher Brown (13) – A middle schooler from Houston, TX was tormented by classmates because they suspected that he was gay. Asher was one of five teens who took his own life in September 2010.
